Did you know that Australia sends over 5 million books to landfill every year? Aussie Books for Zim takes this ‘trash’ and turns it into a treasure for rural kids and sets up libraries in the most remote parts of Zimbabwe. Alfred Chidembo is the CEO and Founder of Aussie Books For Zim, an Australian Registered Charity that collects books that would otherwise go to landfill in Australia to set up libraries in rural communities in Zimbabwe.
Alfred is a PhD holder from the Institute of Superconducting and Electronic Materials (ISEM) who specialised in Electrochemistry and Energy Storage. Upon discovering his passion for improving literacy for the ‘forgotten’ children in rural communities like the one he came from as a barefooted six-year-old, he took the leap, left the field of science to become a social entrepreneur. Alfred shares his amazing story that transcends different barriers and obstacles from a young village boy in one of the most remote environments to publishing articles in world-renowned scientific journals.
He shares his personal story with a candid and raw glimpse into his unconventional leadership journey. It is a story of HOPE, RESILIENCE, SELF DISCOVERY and LEADERSHIP that challenges the idea that success is linear, and support individuals understand numerous ways to find their passions and to create meaningful, global change.
Alfred uses his experiences to bring out the best in aspiring leaders, executives and anyone inspired to lead from the heart, to transition and taking the daunting leap in a career change. He has spoken at student leadership seminars, been a guest speaker at networking events, a panel member of social entrepreneurs and delivered leadership seminars to teams and motivate individuals to realise their potential.
