About me

I left school at the tender age of 16 and never went onto further education. I was taken under the wing of two amazing businessmen (my character angels) who trained me to be a quantity surveyor. I’ve been working as a consultant for 30+ years and for the past 15 years have been in leadership roles where I found a skill for turning around underperforming businesses through focusing on the people, driving culture which in turn drives business performance. I’m currently the Global Head of Knowledge at Hassell architects but soon moving into a General Manager role to again help turn around a team and business in Melbourne.

Professional speaking bio:

Mark is passionate about true leadership and inspiring people to be better than they believe they can be. His innovative, funny and down to earth approach allows his unique ability to tap into people’s internal compass, shedding light on what they truly value to help individuals and teams uncover their extraordinary.

In a world where social media and the public opinion insists that we can be whatever we want to be, but more than ever so many of us doubt our own abilities, Mark has the ability, through charisma, humility and a frank nature to inspire people to gain courage, take action and achieve so much more than they thought they could ever achieve.

A successful businessman, mentor and leader with over 30 years’ experience, Marks skillset has leant themselves to turning problem businesses around, through the process of inspiring people at its core.

This work lead to Mark being a finalist of the IML’s Leader of the Year as nominated by his own team, a testament to his leadership skills.

Mark is also currently the Global Head of Knowledge at HASSELL, where he and his team are driven to understand how leadership and work has shaped our civilisation and given purpose to our very existence. This has been done through the lenses of ‘people, space and technology’ where his team develop new thinking and ideas through research frameworks backed by institutions such as INSEAD, Stanford University and Melbourne University.

This work and thinking, linked with his work as founder of Make One’s Mark, in working with people and businesses to uncover their extraordinary, have lead to talks and keynotes on subjects such as “Making Space for Leadership”, “The Sound of Collaboration”, “The Swan Leader”, “FIFO – Let’s Get Engaged” and “Beyond Leadership”.

His innovative business turnaround framework of FIFO (Fit In or F*ck off), although sounding aggressive, is all about nurturing the positivity and engagement of the right people in the rights seats, fulfilling their purpose to drive personal, team and business performance. The story of where the inspiration of FIFO came from, and its framework and tools, will be published in Marks upcoming book, planned for release next year.

Marks fun, inspiring and down to earth talks engage his audience and give them practical insights and tools they can use straight away, for themselves and their teams, to start making positive change in helping others uncover their extraordinary.

Mark is also a Board Member at Swinburne University for their Centre for Design Innovation, a Board Member at Swinburne University Design Factory, Chairman of the Property Council of Australia’s Mentor Programme and a guest lecturer at INSEAD University (Singapore) for their MBA Leadership Programme.

Some of Marks speaking engagements include Australian Institute of Architects, Creative3 (QUT Creative Enterprise Australia), The Institute of Managers and Leaders and The Disruptive Business Network.
